Garden of the Gods – A registered National Natural Landmark in Colorado Springs, Colorado. See dramatic views of towering sandstone formations against the backdrop of snow-capped Pikes Peak.
US Air Force Academy – The Visitors Center features displays on its history and cadet life and a film highlighting the academy experience.
Royal Gorge Park and Bridge – One of the deepest gorges in Colorado, the Royal Gorge is approximately 10 miles long with the Arkansas River running through it. The gorge was created some 3 million years ago when a trickle of water first began to slowly carve a canyon out of the solid granite bedrock. Walk across one of America’s highest suspension bridges.
Cumbres and Toltec Railroad – Antonito, CO. Fantastic fall foliage should be seen, especially the yellow of the aspens. The railroad’s equipment, structures and vast landscape exist today as if frozen in the first half of the 20th century. The time has long passed when the railroad last hauled precious metals over Cumbres Pass, but its steam locomotives still labor up steep grades carrying visitors over high trestles, through tunnels and along narrow shelves above yawning gorges.
Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway – Constructed to haul silver and gold ore from the San Juan Mountains, passengers soon realized it was the view that was truly precious. This historic train has been in continuous operation for 127 years carrying passengers behind vintage steam locomotives and rolling stock indigenous to the line.
Leadville Colorado and Southern Railroad – A Colorado adventure you will not forget. In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, this scenic train trip provides 2 1/2 hours of sightseeing, relaxation and a little glimpse back in history. Even if you are not a train lover this trip is for you. From canyon floors to the tops of mountains the views are spectacular; the vistas are amazing.
